Aston Villa survived relegation on the very last matchday of Premier League’s last season. They finished 17th on the table and according to Dean Smith fans, players and coaching staff are not happy with this position.
He admitted that Villa needs to sign more quality players to avoid more struggles in the next season.
Speaking to Villa TV, Smith said, “Wheels are in motion, that was the reason I stopped back, to sit down with Johan and strategically plan what we are going to do.”
“Nobody is satisfied with finishing 17th in the league – owners, supporters, players and coaching staff. So we need to improve the squad. We improved after the lockdown and Project Restart and we need to improve again because we don’t want a season of struggles.”
“It will be easier this season, Last season was tough, we got promoted through the play-offs with five or six players who were on loan. Six or seven players left as well, there was always going to be a big turnaround and integrating 12 players is also going to be tough.”
So far Villa has been linked with many players (Milot Rashica, Said Benrahma, Harry Wilson) but nothing is official yet.
