“I’m so in love with football again”, Emi Martinez

Aston Villa’s Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has revealed that he is in love with football again after signing for Aston Villa.

He was associated with Arsenal for over 12 years but he choose to leave them due to a lack of game time. He only appeared in 38 games in those years for Arsenal with being on loan to different clubs also.

Emiliano waited for his chance patiently and luck did him favor as Arsenal’s No one choice keeper Bernd Leno got injured and Arteta choose him to be in goal for the gunners. He made his point by giving great performances and won FA Cup and Community shield with the club.

But he knew that he isn’t going to be the number one keeper for Arsenal which was the reason he left them.

Speaking in an interview with Independent, he said, “It’s the first time in my career I’ve followed my instincts.”

“Before I signed the contract, I breathed deeply and said no matter what happens, I will never look back. I rejected a lot of clubs and then, in my first game, I saved a penalty and had a man of the match performance.”

“That is where I’m at now. I told my wife just the other day, I feel like I’m so in love with football again, like I’ve never known before.”

“[At Arsenal], I didn’t always feel part of it. We won trophies but I was on the bench or just in the squad. I’m not trying to prove anyone wrong, I just want to prove that Villa did the right thing by showing that trust in me”

Emiliano also admired Arteta and told the Independent about how he thanked him in a personal message, “The following morning I texted Mikel [Arteta] and told him. I thanked him, I said I won these trophies because of the way he trained, the way he changed the team. I trust his process so much, he is incredible. [When he was a player], I always thought he was different. It’s like with [Lionel] Messi, I don’t see him as a top player, I see him as a top coach. He’s got so much to prove and I wish him all the best. I will always love everyone at Arsenal, I will always be grateful, but it was time to say goodbye.”
