Back-up goalkeeper Matija Sarkic says he wants to leave Aston Villa at the end of this summer when his contract expires.
He was recalled from his loan spell at Livingston in January when Tom Heaton got injured but he couldn’t get a chance in starting XI. He has been at the club since 2015 but never appeared for the first team and now he wants to leave the club.
In an interview with Montenegrin outlet Vijesti he said, “It was great in Livingston.” On asking about his spell at Villa after comeback he said, “The club, however, soon brought in the famous and experienced Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina, so there was no room for me.”
With Pepe Reina, Nyland , Kalinic as the available options it will be very difficult for him to become the first choice keeper.
“I think that there will be little space for a real chance in Aston Villa in the future, so I plan to go, despite the club’s desire to extend my contract, which expires at the end of June.”
“Now I am diligently preparing for the status I want, and that is the first goalkeeper. There is interest, both in England and abroad. Aston Villa is now one of the four richest clubs. The ambitions are great, and the competition is already huge.”
He has played 18 matches at Livingston but he never got a chance for Aston Villa.
