Aston Villa’s first signing of this season has revealed that Dean Smith was one of the reasons he signed for Aston Villa. He also spoke to the players before signing the contract which made it easy for him to make his mind.
Matty Cash who made his debut against Sheffield United in a 1-0 win on Monday has already left behind the regular starters of last season Frederic Guilbert and Ahmed Elmohamady. He may remain the number one choice in his position as Dean Smith is a big admirer of his qualities.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Matty said, “Villa just ticked all my boxes. As soon as my agent said they were interested, I said to him that this was the place I wanted to come.”
“It’s such a big football club, it suits the way I play and it’s got a great ambition to want to drive forward and be better. It was the place I wanted to come and I didn’t even want to look anywhere else.”
“The gaffer’s a great manager… he’s someone that everyone wants to play for. At Brentford and now at Villa, the style of football he wants to play suits me down to the ground so he had a massive influence on why I came here. I spoke to the players and staff and no one has said a bad word.”
“He’s a really good manager and he’s got great training methods. Every day in training, everyone is at it, and that’s what you’ve got to do to keep improving. You’ve got to make loads of sacrifices and do all the right things to reach this level so I’m just focused on giving my best in each training session and seeing where it takes me.”
